Bill Nye, The Un-Science Guy

On rare occasions, I have written an exposé (exposure of something discreditable) about a specific evolutionist such as Darwin, Huxley and Haeckel, some of the founders of today’s evolutionary worldview. I had avoided writing about men like Sir Richard Dawkins as he is still alive and has the opportunity to repent, which I pray that he will.

The rise in prominence of Mr. Bill Nye and his propagation of a far-left evolution-based worldview has caused me to reconsider my position on dealing with the lives of living evolutionists and to write about him. He became known to the public in the 1990s as the host of the PBS children’s science show Bill Nye the Science Guy (1993–1998).

Mr. Nye did earn a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell in 1977. While there he took one class on astronomy from the old PBS Cosmos program host, Dr. Carl Sagan, a devote evolutionist. I have great admiration for engineers; without them our lives would be far less comfortable.

After graduation, he went to work for Boeing from 1977 to 1986 and contributed to the engineering of 747s. In 1978, he won a Steve Martin look-alike contest and started doing comedy part-time. At that time, he was a volunteer “science explainer” at a local museum. He left Boeing to enter a full-time career as a stand-up comic, writer and actor in the Seattle area.

Nye acquired his now well-known moniker during a comic sketch on a local TV comic show, Almost Alive! He corrected a fellow comic’s pronunciation of a science word and was rewarded with a response: “Who do you think you are - Bill Nye the Science Guy?”

In 1989, he started hosting local TV programs from an evolutionary view on environmental issues in the Seattle area. This led to his developing a pilot of “Bill Nye the Science Guy” which was pitched to the local PBS station as “Mr. Wizard meets Pee-wee’s Playhouse”, a way of promoting his evolutionary views to children. In a story stranger than fiction, because of a legally mandated need for children’s programing on PBS, he could get funding for his program from the National Science Foundation and the US Department of Energy - your tax payer dollars at work!

From 1993 to 1998, he produced 100 episodes of “Bill Nye the Science Guy” shown on public and commercial TV stations around the country. It became one of the most watched “educational” children’s program of all time being nominated for 23 Emmy Awards, winning 19.

He would go on to publish books and an interactive CD-ROM for PCs and Macs. His picture and voice were used at attractions in Disney’s EPCOT, Animal Kingdom and DisneyQuest.

Nye Goes Far-Left

All these events in Nye’s life were harmful enough leading as they did to the indoctrination of children and adults into believing in an evolutionary worldview, but in 2003, he started his slide into militant atheism, far left politics and downright absurdity.

In Romans 1:16-32, the Apostle Paul writes about those who believe in the false concepts of evolution and the consequences of those beliefs. Paul writes that everyone knows that there is a God and why they know it.  In verses 21-23, Paul writes:

“For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.” [Emphasis added] (NAS95)

The word Paul chose for “fools” is the Greek word moraino meaning to act as a simpleton, to become a fool, to make foolish. It comes from a base word moros meaning dull or stupid, blockhead or (apparently) absurd. If Paul wrote it, I think that I am on good ground in repeating it. This is what the teaching of evolution will achieve in our society if it is allowed to continue.

From 2000 to 2002, he was the “technical expert” on that great, never to be forgotten TV program “BattleBots”. In a strange twist of fate, he gave a lecture on mathematics that was the genesis for a good TV series, “Numb3rs”.

In 2003, Mr. Nye attempted to convert what had worked for a PBS children’s show to an adult audience with a program entitled “The Eyes of Nye”. The Seattle PBS station couldn’t fund it and it took two years to get one season produced. 2006 was the end of Bill Nye’s “Eyes”.

It was during the following years that he would not only slide but precipitously fall to become a Far Left propagandist. A list of the TV programs he hosted or made guest appearances on tells the tale. He promoted the Global Warming agenda on The Weather Channel; made various Discovery Channel [Evolution Channel]productions; he made a short series for the Planet Green network, and even made guest appearances on the VH1 reality program America’s Most Smartest Model. And don’t forget his appearance on Dancing with the Stars. What a great science resume.

Concerning proud Global Warming deniers (like me) he thought that jailing them was worth considering and gave his reasons why. Obviously, he is not a proponent of free speech.

In October, 2009, he made a Global Warming video on behalf of Al Gore’s Repower America campaign. In September of 2012, Nye claimed that creationist views threatened science education and innovation in the United States. This is an absurd statement. If there is anything that is stifling education and slowing down innovation it is the teaching of evolution in schools and universities.

From 2005 to 2010, Nye was the vice president of The Planetary Society, an organization that advocates space research to try to prove evolution is common throughout the universe. He became the organization’s second Executive Director in September 2010.

In November 2010, Nye became the spokesman for the Chabot Space and Science Center in Oakland, California. His “Climate Lab” invites visitors on an urgent mission to thwart climate change. Nye said: “Everything in the exhibit is geared to showing you that the size of the problem of climate change is big.” No, it is non-existent.

Nye supported the International Astronomical Union’s 2006 definitions of the terms planet and dwarf planet, which classifies Pluto as the latter. I still do not agree with that change.

Nye is a fellow of the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry, a Rationalist organization promoting the evolutionary Existential and Mechanistic worldview. In an interview by John Rael for the Independent Investigation Group, Nye stated that his “concern right now ... scientific illiteracy ... you [the public] don’t have enough rudimentary knowledge of the universe to evaluate claims.” Nye believes that people are not smart enough to realize that there is no God and that evolution theories are true. You just need to be educated (indoctrinated) into accepting atheism.

In July 2012, Nye endorsed President Barack Obama’s reelection bid.

In 2014, Nye was interviewed for an article published in the Huffington Post, a Far-Left publication. In the article, Nye made a statement about the role that the teaching of creation plays in schools and stated that it is raising a generation of children who “can’t think” and who “will not be able to participate in the future in the same way” as those who are taught evolution.

Clearly Mr. Nye does not understand the principles of good education technique nor the precepts of The Modern Scientific Method (MSM). Nye wants to indoctrinate, not educate.

The best education occurs when the student is introduced to using critical thinking and the specific steps in the MSM. As I have written before, neither creation nor evolution can be proved scientifically using the MSM. The question of origins (how did we get here) is ultimately a faith position. Therefore, to teach one side of an issue only is intellectual bigotry. When it comes to faith positions good education requires that the student be exposed to both sides of the issue equally and then the student should be allowed to decide for themselves which side they will chose to believe.

In 2016, Netflix contracted with Nye to produce a series called Bill Nye Saves the World. It was renewed for a second season in 2017. To any Christian this title should immediately offend you. Jesus Christ is our Savior not Mr. Nye.

More to the point, in his 2016 series Nye was careful to edit his comments telecast during the 1996 series concerning how babies become boys or girls. In his first series Season 4, Episode 8, 1996, he correctly stated that it is the matching of inherited chromosomes that produces a 50-50 mix of boy and girl babies.

In 2017, the original 1996 series segment on gender was excised from the Netflix file. Question: Is this because the original statement was incorrect or is Nye revealing his continuous move to the political left and his attempt to conform to liberal standards? “We report, you decide.”

The most egregious part of Nye’s new series is when he dances along with Rachel Bloom during a truly vulgar transgender video entitled My Sex Junk which can only be described by any moral person as perversion. The video is disgusting and defiles the promotion of science. I do not recommend reading the lyrics, but they are available on the Internet. The lyrics could have been written by Epicurus (341–270 BC), the philosopher of pleasure seeking.

At the end of the “song” Nye, the supposed “Science Guy”, walks confidently out to the middle of the stage and boldly proclaims to his TV audience: “That’s exactly the right message, Rachel. Nice job.” So, Nye thinks that the most extreme LGBT activism is the right road to hard science. Is this how Nye “saves” the world?

Shortly after the My Sex Junk segment ran, it had reached over half a million views on YouTube. Viewers gave it a 60 to 1 negative response. Now that’s bad!

Bill Nye Saves the World is absolutely not a children’s program promoting interest in the study of science to children. Nor is it an innocent revival of his program from 20 years ago. It is an immoral political tool of indoctrination to program young minds into an evolutionary worldview without a moral compass of any kind.

It could be justifiably said that Bill Nye has slipped into a degeneracy he may not come back from. How he can even contemplate that support for the LGBTQ activist community is the equivalent of hard science is beyond the pale of intellectual honesty. His methodology is surely an unacceptable misuse and abuse of what is normatively called science.

Technology is amoral. It is what you do with technology, derived using the Modern Scientific Method, that makes the use of technology moral or immoral.

Nye is attempting to pervert normative science into a sledgehammer and to use it to bully his ideological opponents. His illogical position is that you can’t differ from his claims, because his claims are supposedly “scientific”. No, Nye’s “science” is not science. It is purely Far Left ideology.

2014 Nye-Ham Debacle

February 4, 2014, Mr. Nye traveled to Kentucky for what was billed as a formal debate with Ken Ham. (Ham agreed to donate an undisclosed sum of money to Nye’s unspecified charity if he would show up.) It was not a debate, it was a debacle. Please read the short review by R. David Pogge on our web site at:

http://www.creationworldview.org/articles_view.asp?id=141

Nye defended his participation by saying that he had “stepped into the lion’s den” in order to spread awareness about children who were being denied academic opportunities if they were taught creationism. This supposed debate only served to promote Nye’s positions and was an embarrassment to the whole science community.

Nye released a video about the “dangers” of creationism. In the video, he stated’ “creationism is not appropriate for children ... We need scientifically literate voters and taxpayers for the future ... we need engineers that can build stuff, solve problems.”

To the best of my knowledge no study has ever been published demonstrating that teaching creationism to children did them any harm at all. Critical thinking requires that both sides of a faith issue be studied. If Nye was really serious about wanting good science education in the classroom he would support teaching the use of critical thinking and not the advocacy of one-sided indoctrination.

Nye is not looking for scientifically literate voters; he is looking to produce mind-numbed robots fully indoctrinated in his own agnostic evolutionary worldview. He is not a “good science” promoter; he is a Far-Left political policy wonk.

After the 2014 Nye-Ham Debate, Bill Nye would become a hero to the far left. He has become a frequent guest on liberal TV programs, giving lectures to far left organizations and writing books in 2014 and 2015: Undeniable: Evolution and the Science of Creation and Unstoppable: Harnessing Science to Change the World. He has been showered with honorary doctorates by: Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Johns Hopkins University, Willamette University, Rutgers University, Lehigh University, and Simon Fraser University.

In 2010 Nye received the Humanist of the Year Award from the American Humanist Association. In 1997, the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry (CSICOP) presented Nye with the Candle in the Dark Award for his “lively, creative... endeavor”. In 2011, CSICOP presented Nye their highest award In Praise of Reason.

Dr. Eugenie Scott (from 1986 to 2014 the Executive Director of the National Center for Science Education, Inc., a nonprofit science education organization supporting teaching of evolutionary science only) stated: “If you think Bill is popular among skeptics, you should attend a science teacher conference where he is speaking.”

Clearly Nye’s accolades demonstrate his endearment by the far left among us. His popularity within the teacher’s unions make him a formidable enemy to the achievement of a rational science education curriculum in America’s public schools.

I often shudder when I think of the quote from Abraham Lincoln, “The philosophy of the school room in one generation will be the philosophy of government in the next.” Surely this is why I have written about Bill Nye as his influence is becoming far reaching in America’s public-school classrooms. He has become the Richard Dawkins of America. His teachings must be confronted and shown to be false because not to do so would be disastrous.

Earth Day March 2016

In an interview with CNN for Earth Day 2016 Bill Nye criticized the leading Republican candidates for President, Cruz, Trump and Kasich, because they denied a belief in climate change. Nye used the Earth Day event to propose that it was the “Millennials” (the students that he educated through public TV from 1993 to 1998) that would save the world from climate change deniers. Nye even postulated that the answer to climate change deniers was either jail or allowing them to die to get them out of the way.

The 2017 Supposed “March for Science”

Nye strongly associated with the supposed “March for Science” held in conjunction with Earth Day festivities on April 22, 2017. But, the “March” was embroiled in a lot of controversy before it even began.

National Review reported that on January 28, 2017 the so-called “March for Science” organization tweeted out that, “Colonization, racism, immigration, native rights, sexism, ableism, queer-, trans-, intersex-phobia, & econ justice are scientific issues.” The tweet was removed fairly quickly after the immediate outcry over its contents.

Following the removal of the tweet, the promoters of the March would write four different “diversity” statements, and be attacked from both political sides. Harvard’s Steven Pinker bashed the March’s “anti-science PC/identity politics/hard-left rhetoric,” while of course there were those who attacked it for not going far enough. When it comes to Liberal politics you just can’t go far enough.

One speaker at the event said, “We all have a story. Mine is that I’m a public health geek and a policy wonk. I’m also a queer transgender man.”

The Washington Times reported that, “The March for Science has landed under a microscope amid mounting criticism over its left-of-center political agenda, prompting fears that the event could do more harm to the image of scientific research than good.” I would be the first to agree.

Even Nye was a victim of his own movement. He was attacked for his whole-hearted participation in the event because he was “a white male.” There was no mention, of course, that he was not truly a scientist. His problem was that he was the wrong color for the PC narrative of the events backers.

The supposed 2017 “March for Science” was not in promotion of good education, nor a promotion of good science activity, it was a march for the science that affirms our priors.

Bill Nye is a comedian, but if we are not actively working to refute his teachings, the joke will be on us.
